When storage is the sensible answer
Most people do not plan to need storage. It just happens. The new villa is not finished, the kitchen renovation has gone over schedule, or you are working abroad for six months and it makes no sense to pay rent for a sofa. Others are downsizing and have not yet decided what to do with the family dining table. There is also the classic end-of-tenancy gap, with an old home that must be empty on Thursday and a new one that opens the following week.
Tell us your situation and roughly how long you expect it to last. An honest estimate is enough, and plans change. We will set out the storage arrangement in your written quote before work begins, so you know exactly what you are agreeing to.
Packing for months, not hours
A box that travels for two hours has an easy life. A box that waits for months has a different job. Things packed for storage should be clean and dry, because dust, crumbs and damp become more of a problem over time. So we pack with that in mind.
- Furniture: dismantled where sensible, covered, and with fittings kept in labelled bags.
- Mattresses and sofas: covered to keep dust away, and stored so nothing heavy sits on top.
- Cartons: numbered and listed, with heavy items below and fragile ones above.
- Fridges and washing machines: please clean and dry them fully before we arrive, with doors left slightly open once stored.
The list is your best friend
Three months from now, you will need your winter jackets, the children's toys or one particular carton of books, and you will not remember where it went. So we keep a numbered inventory of what goes in, and give you a copy. Keep it somewhere you will find it, and take a photo on your phone too. Better still, set aside anything you may need soon, such as documents, medicines, jewellery and valuables. Those should stay with you, not in a carton.
Ask us the right questions
Heat is a real issue in this country, so storage conditions matter, especially for wood, leather, musical instruments, artwork and electronics. Tell us exactly what you plan to store, and ask us directly about the conditions and access arrangements for your dates. We will give you a straight answer, in writing. If an item is not a good fit for storage, we would rather tell you now. When you are ready, we deliver back to your door, reassemble the furniture and leave you with your home, finally balanced again.
